Project made possible by Jean-Marie and Lori Atamian of New York
Los Angeles, June 20, 2019 – Armenia Fund US Western Region has provided a brand-new home to the Movsisyan family in Chapar, a village in Artsakh’s Martakert Region. The Movsisyans received their house through Armenia Fund’s “Our Home” program, which builds homes for Artsakh families who have five or more children and lack adequate housing. The Movsisyans’ home was made possible by Armenia Fund benefactors Jean-Marie and Lori Atamian of New York.
Recently, Gevorg Movsisyan, his wife Diana, and their five children marked their move to their new home with a joyous celebration in Chapar, which comprised a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The festive occasion was attended by a delegation of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, including Executive Director Haykak Arshamyan and Armenia Fund US Western Region President Maria Mehranian, as well as numerous local residents, relatives, and friends of the Movsisyans.
In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Haykak Arshamyan thanked Armenia Fund benefactors Jean-Marie and Lori Atamian for their generosity in supporting projects of pan-Armenian importance, including the “Our Home” program in Artsakh and the “Our Gyumri” housing-assistance initiative in Armenia.
Maria Mehranian, in turn, told the attendees that securing homes for large and economically-vulnerable families in Artsakh remains a top priority for Armenia Fund. “Community and economic development is extremely important to us,” she said, adding, “Our hope is to continue to help develop Artsakh and to stand by its people, who live here and defend these lands.”
Also addressing the well-wishers was beneficiary Gevorg Movsisyan, who said, “I cannot find the words to describe the sheer beauty and comforts of our new home. I would like to convey our deep gratitude to Armenia Fund and our benefactors, Mr. and Mrs. Jean-Marie and Lori Atamian, for helping change our lives. Thanks to their gift, we will soon be able to cultivate this plot of land, as well as establish greenhouses and raise livestock.”
Launched in 2015, the “Our Home” housing-assistance program helps promote economic development and demographic growth throughout Artsakh, by providing high-quality homes to families with five or more children living in unacceptable housing conditions. In addition to constructing the houses, Armenia Fund US Western Region fully furnishes them and equips them with a complement of modern amenities and comforts, including home appliances — from water heaters, refrigerators, and washers and dryers to stoves, television sets, and vacuum cleaners. Moreover, every new house features a large lot, where beneficiary families can grow fruits and vegetables, and engage in animal farming.
