LOS ANGELES (June 3, 2023) — On Sunday, June 4, Armenia Fund, in partnership with ARTN TV, will host its sixth telethon dedicated to the people of Gyumri. The telethon will start at 12 noon and continue until 6 p.m. PT. Viewers can tune in to the live telecast on ARTN TV or via ARTN’s online portal, Horizon Armenia TV, US Armenia, and armeniafund.org. Through the generosity of the Armenian American diaspora, Armenia Fund will utilize funds to continue building housing and infrastructure in Gyumri, directly benefiting the residents therein.
“Since December 2022, our crews have completed two state-of-the-art apartment buildings in Gyumri, successfully housing 36 families, including those affected by the 44-Day War,” said Armenia Fund Board Chair Maria Mehranian. “For the first time, those families were able to enjoy the safety and comfort of a modern home, and we are delighted to soon offer even more families the same experience.”
Built in Gyumri’s Mush 2 District, the two completed buildings were constructed by Armenia Fund, Inc. (USA) as part of its ongoing Gyumri Housing Project. The two new buildings will also be in the Mush 2 District but even larger than the ones that have been completed, featuring a total of 56 apartments, expected to be ready for move-in by December 2023. Like all apartments provided by Armenia Fund, every unit will come completely furnished and equipped with all necessary amenities, including appliances. Moreover, both buildings are seismically sound and will be outfitted with solar heaters, in order to maintain a significantly low carbon footprint.
Throughout the years, Gyumri residents have weathered natural disasters and persevered in the midst of tragedy, often housed in horrific makeshift huts, or “domiks,” meant to serve as temporary shelter. Now, following the Artsakh War of 2020, there are even more families in need of secure housing, including those who have been wounded and disabled in battle defending our nation. It is with the Armenian American community’s support the lives of 36 families have been changed and the plight of homelessness in Gyumri has been addressed in a meaningful way.
Please tune in on June 4th to donate, or visit armeniafund.org for more information and options.
